The Humanity Bracelet has been sold at Kiefer Village Jewels since shortly after the tragic events of September 11. “I saw a woman wearing this beautiful bracelet that had 14 virtues engraved on it,” said Wendy Hevia, owner of Kiefer Village Jewels. “I asked her about it and it turned out that her sister designed the bracelet. I got more information and was so inspired by the design that we immediately started to carry the line.” The unique, reversible bracelet, designed by Deborah Fineout-Launey of New York City, has seven disks, with a “virtue word” engraved on each side of each disk, 14 words in all. One side reads: Courage, Love, Trust, Honor, Family, Truth and Charity. The other side reads: Loyalty, Unity, Passion, Joy, Kindness, Humor, and Hope. The firm that creates the bracelet, LHH&F, Inc, saw a definite increase in the sale of inspirational gifts following 9/11. “The fragile economy, 9/11 aftermath, the reality of war and concerns about terrorism have placed renewed emphasis on humanitarian and moral values, and gift purchases clearly reflect that trend,” said Fineout-Launey. The 14 virtues “are positive concepts and traits within each of us that ultimately affect our humanity. When these are nurtured, our lives are enriched; when our lives are challenged, we seek a greater perspective and understanding. We begin to appreciate that ‘courage’ is diluted if we do not also have ‘honor’; that ‘trust’ eludes us if we do not also seek the ‘truth.’ These are powerful and positive principles and true goals to many of us,” she adds. The Humanity Bracelet is offered in pewter brushed with silver and also in Sterling Silver. Each bracelet is beautifully packaged in a black velvet jeweler’s wrap and comes with a booklet, Words to Live By, of mini-essays on each of the 14 words. The bracelets are available in 3 lengths: 7-1/2”, 8’ and hard to find 9”.
